More of March

People often ask if we have 2 of everything, and the answer is YES, or at least it feels that way.  There has always been 2 - two carseats, two highchairs, two bouncers, two cribs.  Even now there are two bikes in my front yard, two Ironmans on my family room floor, two sharks in my bathtub, and two sets of dirty hand prints on my walls.  Up until now buying two of everything hasn't been too bad, but this picture gives me a glimpse into the future, when buying two of everything is going to start adding up really fast - two laptops, two cars, two missions.  Guess I better start saving now!

I made my mom her favorite cake for her birthday - yellow cake with chocolate frosting.  This is a pretty simple request to fulfill - all it takes is a yellow cake mix and a can of frosting, and I was pretty proud of my baking success.  Shelly was our decorator,  I was impressed with what she could do with a fork and a Ziploc bag of colored brown frosting.  Voila!

Recently my Grandpa has been joining us for Sunday dinner at my mom's house.  I'm really lucky that my boys are able to spend so much time getting to know their great-grandpa because of it.
This is Grandpa John showing the boys the picture of the B-17 airplane he named The Terrible Ute in WWII.

I was really hoping that this year would be different and that we wouldn't end up in the ER as many times as we did last year.  We made it clear to March.  It was a typical evening. They boys were playing the Wii in the family room, I was doing dishes and talking on the phone, and Matt was walking his Dad to the door.  None of us saw exactly what happened, we just heard the bang, followed by the cry (you know that cry, the serious cry).  Matt grabbed Carter and that's when I saw the blood.  I abruptly ended my phone conversation with a "Crap, Carter's bleeding, I'll call you back" click.  I took one look at it and knew we were on our way to the hospital.  I took Carter by myself, no sense in everyone having their night ruined.  He was a trooper through the whole thing.   Since this wasn't my first time, I knew what to expect.  After we were checked in they took us back to the room I have been in twice before - when Spencer got stitches, and when Carter had RSV.  Once we were settled in and waiting for the doctor we called home to update everyone.  Spencer and Carter had a really cute conversation with each other, Spencer was really concerned about Carter and where he was. After all was said and done Carter ended up with 10 stitches and a red popsicle.  They sedated him for the procedure and he was so funny, laughing at everything, asking how he had gotten on the exam table, talking about Scooby Doo.  He was so loopy, I wish I had gotten it on tape, it was so funny.  By the end though he'd had enough and started to get irritable.  I had to carry him out kicking and screaming because he didn't want to leave, and he continued crying most of the way home.  Luckily by morning he had forgotten most of what had happened.  And even though his stitches were dissolvable, and according to the doctor they almost always dissolve, Carter's did not so we had to go back to have some of them taken out.  Here's a couple of pictures I snapped on my phone.

After Sedation:
The next night he fell asleep at the dinner table because he was so tired from the night before.

Meanwhile Spencer was busy drawing 'twins' on the cement in the backyard.

I don't know why my kids insist on falling on their faces and getting stitches.  I'm sure this is going to leave a nice mark.

Everyone comments on how alike Matt and Carter are.  Here's just another example, they even sleep the same.

Usually when we go out we get  stopped and asked if the boys are twins.  This night while were at dinner a man stopped by our table to comment on how much Matt and Carter look alike.  Maybe they are the real twins of our family.
After going out with friends one night I came home to find this scene: Matt's idea of putting the boys to bed.

The boys are always very interested when I paint my toenails.

Not much to say about this except for WHY?!?  Who knew styrofoam could make such a mess.

March Madness - Hardwood Floors

I was so, so excited to get hardwood floors installed.  It was quite the process actually. First they delivered the wood so we had a ginormous pile of wood sitting in our kitchen.  Then we had to move all of our furniture into the garage and clear everything off of the walls.  It was loud, dirty, and exhausting trying to keep the boys entertained all day while we were cooped up in my bedroom.  The process took about 4 days from start to finish, and we are so happy with the result!  The day after we had them installed one of the boys had a bloody nose that dripped all over the floor.  It was so awesome to just wipe it up and be done.  Since then we've had everything from dirt, vomit, styrofoam, more blood, etc. on the floor and it is so easy to clean up - I'm in love!  Here's a few pics of the process.

We had to sleep at my mom's house the night they put the finish on the floors because the smell was so toxic.  The next day when we went to our house to see the finished product I walked in and there on the wall was a picture of the Salt Lake Temple that I have had my eye on.  Matt had bought it to surprise me and had gone over earlier in the day to hang it up.  He said that they fumes were so toxic he could only stand to be in the house for a few minutes so he just hung it on the wall as fast as he could without centering it or anything.  I still can't believe he was able to keep it a secret and not tell me.  It was such a great surprise!
Here's the finished product - love it!

Finally Finishing February - sheesh!

OK, so I'm a slacker.  Apparently blogging isn't at the top of my priority list, what can I say? I like to blog in waves in case you haven't noticed. So for those of you who have been asking, get ready, because here comes the wave.......
